Uber Mission Bay Headquarters

with Quezada Architecture and SHoP

The Uber Headquarters takes a novel approach to thermal comfort and natural ventilation. Using the concept of alliesthesia, Atelier Ten designed an engineered natural ventilation system that ensures comfort while also providing a variety of microclimates inside the building.

Atelier Ten worked with the team to create a transparent space with access to views that reduces solar heat gain and energy use to meet strict energy codes and high LEED and WELL aspirations. Atelier Ten developed a thermal program based on how occupants would use each space, a diverse user population and a variety of working styles, and determined the right thermal conditions for each part of the building. The thermal pathway expands this approach to the user’s experience of the whole site – how they move from indoors to outdoors throughout the day. The goal is to improve well-being with access to daylight, views and the outdoors, while also designing a low energy building.

Atelier Ten led the benchmarking for Buildings 1 & 2 and provided system recommendations resulting in strong energy savings, water savings, and a healthy indoor environment that achieved WELL and LEED Gold certification.
