On the Road to Electrification: One Size Doesn’t Fit All! at Greenbuild 2026

As institutions accelerate efforts to reduce carbon emissions and transition away from fossil fuels, electrification has become a cornerstone of decarbonization strategies. But while the end goal may be clear, the path to get there is rarely linear or uniform. Aging infrastructure, limited capital budgets, evolving regulations, and competing operational priorities mean that every campus faces a unique set of challenges.
On Thursday, October 22, from 2:30 to 3:30 PM, Atelier Ten’s Sr. Executive Director Nico Kienzl will explore how institutions can navigate these challenges and build practical pathways toward decarbonization. In the session, On the Road to Electrification: One Size Doesn’t Fit All!, Nico will share lessons from four built projects spanning individual academic buildings, campus-wide initiatives, and district-scale energy systems.
Nico will be present alongside Carlos Cerezo Davila, Director and Head of Sustainability at Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF). Together, they will examine how institutions can align electrification strategies with infrastructure readiness, project timing, funding cycles, and long-term carbon reduction goals while navigating financial, operational, and regulatory constraints. Drawing on real-world case studies, they will highlight practical opportunities to maximize impact through strategic planning and targeted investment.
