Tower Hamlets Town Hall, the new headquarters for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, heralds the regeneration of a key Grade II listed building within the heart of the community. Its completion includes the addition of a new build extension, creating exemplary facilities for both public services and local government, providing a welcoming environment for visitors and staff alike.
A comfortable internal environment helps make the building both an enjoyable and productive space. As the public face of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Council, the building embodies the principles of sustainability.
The design of the building balances the competing demands of function, comfort and energy use by selecting systems that are effective and efficient. Given the building geometry and occupant density, mechanical ventilation and comfort cooling systems have been implemented throughout. Services distribution have been designed at high level in the space, exposed to view. The removal of the ceilings enables the thermal mass of the building to engage with the space, reducing peak loads.
