Bundanon Museum and new Bridge for Creative Learning

with Kerstin Thompson Architects and KTA

Located in a spectacular natural setting of bushland and river valley boasting highly valued aspect and amenity, this new build has been designed by KTA as an expansion of Arthur Boyd’s Riversdale property in the Shoalhaven region of NSW. The design is comprised of 2 elements – a bridge-like structure which will house a creative learning centre, visitor hub and an accommodation facility, and a subterranean gallery space which will provide a home for the Bundanon Trust’s permanent collection.

The site itself is currently an exemplar of ESD initiatives including water self sufficiency and operating with minimal power requirements. Maintaining and enhancing this self-sufficiency is a core ambition of the ESD brief for this project with the intention of aligning project program and budgetary constraints with opportunities to minimise environmental footprint.

The opportunities of the site are commensurate with the practical constraints of its remoteness, driving the project towards highly independent off-grid systems to deliver utilities and process material flows.
