Faifley Campus

with Holmes Miller

Faifley Campus is an ambitious new development in West Dunbartonshire that brings together primary education, early learning, and community facilities within a single, highly sustainable building. Designed to Passivhaus principles and aligned with Net Zero Public Sector Building Standard (NZPSBS) targets, the campus combines innovation with high building performance.

At its core, the project creates an adaptable learning setting, where a range of flexible spaces support modern teaching approaches and foster collaboration, independence, and creativity. By combining an inclusive learning environment with essential community amenities, the campus establishes a vibrant local hub that strengthens connections between pupils, staff, and the wider community while setting a benchmark for sustainable school design.

Atelier Ten supported the design team from the early concept stage, shaping a sustainable and future-ready campus that prioritises wellbeing, operational energy performance and whole-life carbon reduction.
Key features include:

• Design aligned with Net Zero Public Sector Building Standard targets, achieving low operational energy and reduced carbon emissions
• Passivhaus-led design, with high-performance fabric, airtightness and efficient heat recovery ventilation systems
• Zero direct emissions heating via air source heat pumps, supported by photovoltaic electricity generation
• LEIP 2 funded, meeting stringent energy and monitoring requirements

Through integrated environmental modelling and engineering, Atelier Ten embedded passive design principles such as optimised façade, daylight, and ventilation strategies, to reduce energy demand and ensure a healthy internal environment. This holistic approach delivered a resilient, low-carbon educational campus aligned with Scotland’s ambitious net zero targets.
