Toga Surry Hills Village

with SJB

Surry Hills Village is the revitalisation of the current shopping village comprising high- end apartments, boutique hotel, rooftop pool and bar, retail and commercial, a public park, and adaptive reuse of the heritage- listed and under-utilised former Bank of NSW building

Atelier Ten built on previous thermal and visual comfort work by defining optimal internal conditions for residents. These became the baseline targets for which the project would aspire, rather than standard code compliance.

We conducted a development-wide thermal comfort analysis (including additional variables such as shading), as well as a daylight and glare analysis. This allowed us to understand holistic internal comfort conditions across all apartments and penthouses, including consequent factors such as energy use, peak loads, predicted operational and maintenance expenses, and mechanical equipment space requirements and costs.

We could then guide development of the envelope conditions across a variety of residence types, orientations, exterior conditions (including traffic and public domain), and facade types – from windows to balconies to terraces.
