Green City Kigali
with Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios
The Green City on Kinyinya Hill is an ambitious project, kickstarting transformational sustainable urbanisation across Rwanda that is grounded with a deep understanding of the local and wider economic, developmental, social and cultural context. Using local construction materials, the community will enjoy the social and economic benefits of urbanisation while limiting their ecological footprints.
The project is piloting multiple innovative strategies that proactively respond to climate change using resources efficiently, whilst creating a place that is inclusive and specific to Rwandan culture.
Atelier Ten is providing MEP design services for the site wide public infrastructure as well as the individual buildings. Supporting both client and team to bring improvement in the lives of the future inhabitants of the development, Atelier Ten deliver to the project sustainable characteristics; such as with water consumption reduction which results in lower costs of living for the end user, and limits the additional infrastructure required at a municipal level in an already resource stressed area.
Through replicating innovation applied across the world, but adapted and updated to suit the requirements, limitations and considerations of the local situation, Atelier Ten have been able to push the boundaries in sustainable urban design, whilst meeting the clients needs around cost, operation, maintenance, and local knowledge.
