Ayrshire Hospice

with Austin Smith Lord

Ayrshire Hospice Capital Project involved the redevelopment of the existing hospice site at Racecourse Road, Ayr. A constrained site which included a number of listed buildings within a conservation area the building need to respond to its surroundings and listed buildings.

Creation of high quality environment with focus on energy efficiency and decarbonisation. Atelier ten were involved from project feasibility through to final handover of the project. During the project the strategy evolved to met the changing expectation, initially based on the inclusion of gas boilers, to a fully decarbonised heating solution.

Each inpatient room is provided with dedicated supply and extract ventilation to allow flexibility in operation and ensure that the internal environment may be tailored to meet the needs of each patient. Elsewhere in the building there is mixture of mechanical, natural and mixed mode ventilation provision. New heating and domestic water services were provided throughout with direct domestic hot water via plate heat exchangers to minimise water storage.
