Disney New York City Headquarters, Robert A. Iger Building
with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM)
Atelier Ten delivered the sustainability vision for the new all-electric Disney NYC HQ building in New York City, achieving LEED Platinum certification for both Core & Shell and Interiors.
This ambitious project occupies a full city block. It brings together several Disney-owned businesses under one roof. This new dynamic workspace houses news, editorial, live productions, streaming, technology, advertising, corporate, business support functions, broadcasting and live-audience studios, open-plan workspaces, and collaborative zones.
Atelier Ten established ambitious project goals for energy, water, daylight, and healthy materials. Our recommendations delivered exceptional results in design—estimating 33% energy cost savings for Core & Shell and 23% for Interiors. Potable water consumption was significantly reduced. Daylight strategies enhanced occupant comfort. The design integrates a high-performance triple-pane façade, vegetated terraces, and efficient HVAC systems with heat recovery. The program’s scale and complexity required meticulous coordination to meet diverse operational needs, including 24/7 activities, highly specialized technical requirements, and high-performance environmental goals.
It is one of the largest, fully-electric office buildings in New York City. The project exemplifies Disney’s corporate commitment to decarbonization. It meets New York City’s Local Law 97 goals. The design integrates seamlessly with the surrounding community through bird-safe façade treatments, inviting amenity spaces, and landscaped terraces. It sets a precedent for high-quality, all-electric commercial buildings.
The workplace meets LEED Platinum targets. It supports both environmental performance and occupant well-being while exemplifying Disney’s commitment to a healthier, low-carbon future for New York City. The project combines innovative design with advanced engineering. The building achieves exceptional environmental performance and sets a new standard for workplace environments.
