The East End Community Campus, now completed, brings together nearly 1,900 pupils from Braeview Academy and Craigie High School, along with their teachers, support staff, and the wider Dundee community. Designed and built to meet the rigorous international Passivhaus standard for sustainable energy use, the campus prioritises energy efficiency, comfort, and environmental responsibility. Construction was led by Robertson Construction, with responsibly sourced materials used throughout.
Atelier Ten provided full MEPH design services, including fire engineering, delivering a comprehensive solution that met the strict performance requirements of the Passivhaus standard. Every design element was assessed against these benchmarks to ensure the most energy-efficient outcomes.
Key features of the completed design include:
– Energy-efficient lighting systems, carefully designed to minimise energy consumption.
– Cascade ventilation systems, utilising atrium spaces to recover and redistribute heat throughout the building.
– Localised domestic hot water generation, positioned close to outlets to reduce heat losses.
– A centralised, modular heat generation plant, designed to maximise operational efficiency.
– Daylight modelling, optimised to increase natural light in classrooms while limiting unwanted heat gain.
– Energy benchmarking, applied to all systems to verify performance under Passivhaus criteria.
The East End Community Campus now stands as a forward-thinking educational and community hub, designed for efficiency, built for resilience, and created with purpose.
