White Plains Hospital Center for Advanced Medicine and Surgery

with Perkins Eastman

The White Plains Hospital Center for Advanced Medicine and Surgery demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability and high performance design. Atelier Ten drove the energy efficient design focusing on the health and well-being of building occupants.

The design of the center reduces energy and water use, improves visual and thermal comfort, and incorporates sustainable and healthy building materials. These environmental strategies support overall design, long-term operation, and respond to the unique programmatic functions of a healthcare facility that serves the greater White Plains region.

Upon analyzing the energy use within the building, it was discovered that equipment or plug load energy use was the leading consumer within the site. With this in mind, Atelier Ten recommended additional high-performance energy saving measures.

Atelier Ten helped the team specify and select durable, long-lasting materials with lower life-cycle environmental impacts (as measured by recycled content, regional availability, and per health product declarations) for the project.

Atelier Ten studied the facade to reduce solar radiation in coordination with high-efficiency lighting design. This resulted in a 25% lighting power density reduction (LPD), implementation of occupancy sensing controls, and continuous daylight dimming. The lighting design creates a calming and welcoming atmosphere for patients, guests and staff to promote a sense of healing and overall wellbeing.
