American Buddhist Cultural Society Temple

with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM)

Designed to support contemplation, learning, and community gathering, the temple provides spaces that encourage connection with nature and offer respite from the pace of urban life. As part of the Society’s transformation into a new six-story temple, Atelier Ten guided the project’s LEED certification process.

Since 1989, the American Buddhist Cultural Society has served as a center for spiritual education, cultural exchange, charity, and community engagement in San Francisco. Through a restrained architectural approach and careful attention to environmental performance, the project reflects values of mindfulness, simplicity, and stewardship.

Atelier Ten led LEED tracking, documentation, and certification administration throughout the project. This included coordinating credit compliance, managing material cost and procurement tracking, and overseeing the submission process to support the project’s sustainability goals.
