First LEED-Certified Flagship Branch for Citizens Bank

As one of Atelier Ten’s first LEED for Commercial Interiors: Retail projects, our integrated design process and effective LEED management assisted the flagship Citizens Bank branch in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA to exceed the targeted Silver certification and achieve LEED Gold.

Atelier Ten collaborated closely with Citizens Financial Group Business Services in certifying this new branch with earnings of 69 points under the USGBC’s LEED 2009 rating system for Commercial Interiors: Retail, making it the first LEED-certified retail branch for Citizens Bank.

Located in an existing building with limited tenant interior fit-out design opportunities, the design team strategized energy and environmental opportunities at project inception to inform all design and construction decisions. Concerted effort was put towards ensuring wood materials, including custom office furniture, were FSC-certified. Additionally, the project met all of the energy efficiency credits, ensuring that occupants in this ~3,000 sq. ft. tenant space can manage and reduce their energy consumption. Many LEED targets were exceeded, including 100% Energy Star equipment and a 95% diversion of construction demolition and construction waste from landfill.

Atelier Ten’s team from the New Haven office includes Associate Marta Bouchard as project manager and Environmental Designer Dan Koenig.
