Atelier Ten U.S. is pleased to announce staff promotions

Junko Nakagawa, Associate (New York)

Junko has been promoted to Associate in the New York office. As an Associate, Junko possesses a strong interest in the collaborative work with architects and design clients on high-performance building projects and masterplans. Recently, she played an instrumental role in guiding Phase 1 of the LEED (ND) Platinum Columbia University Manhattanville Campus development. Her current work includes the LEED Gold target Center for Urban Science and Progress at New York University, the LEED Gold target Hancher Auditorium at the University of Iowa, the LEED Gold target Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, and the LEED Gold target commercial development in Japan. Junko is a Registered Architect in the state of New York.

Gustavo Sanchez, Senior Lighting Designer (New Haven)

Gus Sanchez has been promoted to Senior Lighting Designer in the New Haven office. As one of our Lighting Design experts, Gus’ work focuses on delivering a high level of occupant visual comfort through integration of daylight with low energy intensive electric lighting. He has helped clients save over 60% of their energy usage through thoughtful lighting design. Gus’s portfolio ranges from vibrant performance spaces, to daylit academic classrooms, to award winning low energy intensive laboratories. Prior to joining Atelier Ten, Gus worked as a senior lighting designer for Mintz Lighting Group and Brandston Partnership. He was also an application engineer for Elliptipar/Sylvan Shemitz Lighting Design. Gus has recently been accepted as a Professional Member of the International Association of Lighting Designers and is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.

Sarah Fisher, Senior Lighting Designer (New Haven)

Sarah Fisher has been promoted to Senior Lighting Designer in the New Haven office. Sarah has expertise in sustainable lighting and energy code compliance and has recently been accepted as a Professional Member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). Prior to joining Atelier Ten, Sarah worked as a senior lighting designer for Interface Engineering. She has been a Guest Lecturer at Columbia University and Parsons, The New School for Design, from where she holds an MA in Architectural Lighting Design. In addition to the IALD, Sarah is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) and formerly served on the board of directors for its Oregon section.

Bret Mantyk, Senior Environmental Designer (New York)

Bret Mantyk has been promoted to Senior Environmental Designer in the New York office. Bret is an experienced sustainable design consultant and a LEED expert. Prior to joining Atelier Ten, Bret worked as a mechanical engineer for ARUP. As a designer and project manager with Atelier Ten, Bret has guided many projects through completion and earning LEED certification, including the LEED Platinum Kohler Environmental Center at Choate Rosemary Hall, the LEED Platinum Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies and the LEED Gold New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene headquarters. He is an active member of Urban Green Council’s Programs Committee and has presented at numerous events including Greenbuild.

Leanora Paniccia, Senior Environmental Designer (New York)

Leanora has been promoted to Senior Environmental Designer in the New York office. As a member of Atelier Ten’s environmental design and planning practices, Leanora has expertise in masterplan development, complex façades, and comprehensive water management. Her diverse project experience consists of university and corporate campuses, healthcare, and commercial high-rise buildings. Her current work includes the new LEED Platinum target NYULMC Kimmel Pavilion, the LEED Platinum target office towers in São Paulo, Brazil and the LEED Gold target Memorial Sloan-Kettering Ambulatory Care Center. For the past four years, she has been on the board of governors and held committee chair positions for ASHRAE-NY.

Jessica Sundberg Zofchak, Senior Environmental Designer (New York)

Jessica Sundberg Zofchak has been promoted to Senior Environmental Designer in the New York office.
She works as a technical lead within the environmental design and daylight practices at Atelier Ten, focusing on integrated and computational methods for building performance optimization. Her recent focus includes developing Atelier Ten’s in-house daylight and façade optimization tool set. Jessica manages a number of ambitious projects, including the LEED Platinum target Cambridge Lab Campus Expansion, the LEED Gold target 20 Washington Road at Princeton University and the LEED Gold target GSA Federal Building in Florida. She currently serves as the lecturer for Daylighting at the University of Pennsylvania.
