Atelier Ten is proud to have joined the design team co-lead by OLIN & Weiss/Manfredi to win the National Mall Design Competition entry for the Washington Monument Grounds at Sylvan Theater in Washington, DC. Selected by the Trust for the National Mall and the National Park, the proposed design will revitalize the area around the Washington Memorial while providing a new outdoor performance space and improved pedestrian linkages from the National Mall to the Tidal Basin for the estimated twenty-five million annual visitors to the site. Atelier Ten coordinated efforts to provide research, analysis, and concepts in support of the OLIN & Weiss/Manfredi winning design.
Atelier Ten engaged with the team by analyzing active energy savings, renewable strategies, and passive design opportunities for the Washington, DC climate. Collaborated efforts also included providing input to the conceptual building massing to manage solar heat gain and provide comfortable outdoor spaces that are integrated with a holistic ecological landscape.
Atelier Ten’s team, from the New York office, includes Associate Ben Shepherd and Environmental Designer Leanora Paniccia.
