Designed to embrace Austin’s mild climate and indoor-outdoor lifestyle, Sixth&Blanco prioritizes passive design strategies to optimize thermal comfort while reducing energy loads and water use.

Sixth&Blanco combines retail, dining, event spaces, hotel rooms, a spa, and private residences arranged as a permeable urban village of courtyards, terraces, and shaded circulation pathways. Atelier Ten led the sustainability and energy design, leading climate-responsive design strategies and low‑carbon material choices along with daylight, thermal comfort, and energy performance analyses.

The project is designed around a strong passive environmental strategy that reduces energy demand and limits reliance on active cooling systems. Atelier Ten performed detailed daylight analysis for both interior and exterior spaces, shaping façade design and shading
strategies to balance daylight access with visual and thermal comfort. Recessed façades, exterior shading, and outdoor patios help control solar heat gain while supporting comfortable indoor and outdoor environments. Rainwater harvesting is incorporated to support on-site irrigation and reduce potable water use.
