We are deeply saddened by the deaths of Rayshard Brooks, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and too many others. We emphatically support the Black Lives Matter movement.
We are committed to listening, learning, supporting and advocating for racial justice. We believe in the fundamental fabric of our democratic society: equal rights, justice, political equity, upward control, and opportunity for all people. These are not mere slogans, they must be the fundamental principles, ones that we now all need to reaffirm. We stand with those of you who focus on the issues of racial injustice, police brutality, criminal justice reform, Black immigration, economic injustice, LGBTQIA+ and human rights, environmental injustice, access to healthcare, access to quality education, and voting rights and suppression.
As engineers, architects, and building scientists, we believe that we must take steps for transformative change with anti-racist motivated actions and commitments. Our US offices have started this process with a Black Lives Matter committee to research and implement strategies for our company both internally and through our work in the built environment. We have opened participation to all of our staff and we’re dedicated to making these strategies a reality. Our UK offices are forming a similar group with a broad diversity agenda to address Black Lives Matter as well other forms of discrimination. Our Sydney and Melbourne offices have begun the process of developing a Reconciliation Action Plan to acknowledge and support the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders communities at the center of the Australian Black Lives Matter movement. Environmental justice is where sustainability, race, and economic status intersect. It is an area where Atelier Ten can help achieve real-world impact within the built environment.
We support the Black Lives Matter movement. It’s time to say, unequivocally, that Black Lives Matter and we are committed to ending systemic racism through our actions. This is a start, and we have a lot of work to do. We promise to listen and to keep moving forward. Black Lives Matter.
