2025 American Architecture Awards – Six Atelier Ten Projects Recognized

We are pleased to share that six Atelier Ten projects received 2025 American Architecture Awards in six different award categories. Read more about each project below.

Vesterheim Commons, Decorah, IA | Museums and Cultural Buildings
Designed by Snohetta, The Commons integrates elements of Norwegian-American culture to establishes a welcoming new entry point and gathering space for the community of Decorah. Atelier Ten coordinated with the design team to optimize the interior layout for daylight, comfort and exhibit preservation. The extended wooden canopy provides passive shading to exterior and interior spaces, and the interior oculus connects the brings light to the ground floor.

Inova Health Center Oakville, Alexandria, VA| Hospitals/Medical Centers
Inova Health Center – Oakville is the first of Inova Health System’s multi-campus initiative. The new all-electric medical and emergency facility supports the redevelopment of the surrounding Alexandria, Virginia’s Oakville Triangle neighborhood. The new medical and emergency facility places patient experience and sustainable practice at its centerpiece. Through a series of analysis, Atelier Ten established design strategies that prioritize community wellness, carbon and energy reduction, stormwater management, and daylight.

TMC3 Collaborative Building, Houston, TX | Office Building
The TMC3 Collaborative Building sets a benchmark for high-performance laboratory design, integrating resource efficiency, architectural quality, and targeted systems to reduce energy demand and operational impact. Designed to support Texas A&M, UT Health, and MD Anderson Cancer Center, the two interconnected buildings provide daylit, thermally comfortable research environments that foster interdisciplinary collaboration. As the sustainability lead, Atelier Ten provided Environmental Design, Energy Analysis and LEED Administration to guide the project toward its energy efficiency and occupant comfort goals.

Far Rockaway Library, New York, NY | Libraries
The Far Rockaway Library serves as a gathering space and resource for the diverse and dynamic community of Queens, NY. Atelier Ten’s daylight design works in tandem with the library’s open plan, offering views to the surrounding neighborhood and creating a sense of connection to the outside. Atelier Ten worked with the team to ensure the project meets local New York sustainability requirements while also integrating high performance building systems with an emphasis on creating a comfortable indoor environment for the community.

King County Civic Ground, Seattle, WA | Urban Planning/Landscape Architecture
The King County Civic Center Master Plan (KC CCMP) project will be the heart of Seattle’s governance and public services. Atelier Ten led the sustainability vision for the masterplan, deploying contextually appropriate solutions, best practices and technologies that honor the place and the natural environment. Atelier Ten supported Northwest Studio in identifying sustainable development strategies that leverage the scale of the site, and incorporate best practices to address climate change, and create restorative urban spaces.
