University of Arizona Cancer Center Opens

Opened in August, the new state-of-the-art University of Arizona Cancer Center uses daylight to create a welcoming patient environment. Atelier Ten and ZGF Architects created a facade that blocks the intense Phoenix sun and defines the character of the building. On the inside, the shading system improves visual and thermal comfort for the patients and enables the use of chilled beams as a low-energy HVAC system.

“This Center reflects the University of Arizona’s commitment to improving the lives of all Arizonans,” said UA President Ann Weaver Hart. Read more about the Cancer Center and the wellness strategies being to used to improve the comfort of their patients.

Atelier Ten’s team includes Director Claire Maxfield and Senior Designer Kristen DiStefano from the San Francisco office, and Associate Leanora Paniccia from the New York office.
