September Talks
Atelier Ten is kicking off the Fall Season with exciting talks across the US.
2014 ASHRAE/IBPSA-USA Building Simulation Conference
September 10, 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Jagan Pillai, Environmental Designer
Jagan Pillai from Atelier Ten’s New York office will present “Laboratory Systems: Impact of Functional, Operational and Climatic Parameters” at the 2014 ASHRAE/IBPSA-USA Building Simulation Conference in Atlanta, GA. His talk highlights the importance of evaluating laboratory buildings’ functional, operational, and climatic parameters before making design decisions regarding energy efficiency strategies.

2014 NESEA Annual Meeting
September 13, 5 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Mark Loeffler, Director
The Northeast Sustainable Energy Association is celebrating their 40th Anniversary. Mark Loeffler from Atelier Ten’s New Haven office will close the 2014 NESEA Annual Meeting with a keynote on dematerialization – the reduction of resource mass. Titled “Dematerializing”, Mark’s keynote emphasizes the need for buildings to do better with less in today’s resource-constrained world and that dematerialization is necessary for the built environment to move beyond sustainability towards sustaining and climate-positive buildings. His presentation further explores the cutting edge of material science and the challenge to undertake the ‘lightweighting’ of buildings while improving human health, environmental performance, and climate resiliency.

International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) Conference 2014
September 22, 1:30 p.m.
Shruti Kasarekar, Senior Environmental Designer
Brian Meinrath, Senior Environmental Designer
Shruti Kasarekar and Brian Meinrath from Atelier Ten’s San Francisco office will present “Optimizing Airflows for Laboratories” (Session B2 – Letting the Air Out: Ventilation Standards and Applications) at the 2014 I2SL Conference in Orlando, Fl. Their presentation evaluates various background ventilation rates, fume hood exhaust rates, and sensible cooling requirements, as determined by whole-building energy analysis. The presentation will include a discussion of typical criteria used for defining air-flows in laboratory spaces and their impact on whole building energy use.
September 24, 11:00 a.m.
Shreshth Nagpal, Associate
Shreshth Nagpal from Atelier Ten’s New York office will present “Significance of Operational and Climatic Parameters in Laboratory HVAC System Selection” (Session H1- Solutions for Changing Climates) at the 2014 I2SL Conference in Orlando, FL. His presentation includes results from multiple energy simulation runs for multiple laboratory projects and will assess the relationships between the functional requirements, loads, operational flexibility, climate, and the effectiveness of various energy efficiency measures.
