Atelier Ten is kicking off the New Year with exciting talks and presentations.

 

JAN 10 – Facades Tectonics #14
Claire Maxfield, Director

Claire will present “Glass, Critical Regionalism, & Sustainability” published in the Façade Tectonics Journal: Volume 14. Claire explains the rise of highly glazed buildings and reviews several case studies with envelopes that use transparency and glass in a meaningful and site-specific way.

JAN 13 – Rural Studio’s 20th Anniversary Speaker Series
Claire Maxfield, Director

Returning for her second time, Claire is part of Rural Studio’s 20th Anniversary speaker series. Rural Studio at Auburn University is an off-campus design-build program in West Alabama. The program gives students hands-on educational experience with projects that assist an underserved population.

JAN 22 – ASHRAE 2014 Winter Conference
Michael Tillou, Associate

The presentation, titled “What You Need to Know about the Energy Standard for Buildings: ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2013,” will highlight some of the major changes in building envelope, mechanical system, and lighting requirements from the new Standard 90.1-2013. Michael will discuss the major changes to Chapter 11 and Appendix G that are included in the 2013 version of ASHRAE Standard 90.1. Chapter 11 is the Energy Cost Budget method of code compliance and Appendix G is the building energy performance rating method.

Michael will co-present with Len Sciarra from Gensler; Ned Heminger from HAWA; and Eric Richman from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

JAN 30 – AIA San Francisco
Claire Maxfield, Director

The panel topic, “Best Business Practices Outside the Architecture Box”, will be a discussion between the allied services providers about their strategies for success and best practices to compellingly convey their value to clients. The panel will include leaders from the fields of construction, landscape design, and environmental design; they will share how their firms expanded and enhanced their services beyond their traditional scopes, either in response to or anticipation of market demand, and how design, technology and innovation impact a firm’s relevance.

Claire will be joined by Scott Anderson from Pankow; Frances Choun from McCarthy; Cinda Gilliland from SWA; and David Meckel from CCA will moderate.
