UKN Spring Promotions 2025
We’re celebrating our spring promotions! Learn what our team members are most proud of and what they’re excited to accomplish in the upcoming year.
Bernie Carr – Divisional Director
I’m honoured to have recently been promoted and proud to reflect on the diverse range of local construction projects I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to. From small-scale residential developments to significant civic buildings such as the Burrell Collection and Perth City Hall, each project has deepened my appreciation for the role that thoughtful design and planning play in shaping sustainable communities. I’ve particularly enjoyed leading on environmental and sustainability strategies, helping to embed resilience and responsibility into the fabric of our built environment. As I step into this new role, I’m excited to continue working in this critical space—addressing the climate and planetary emergency with purpose and urgency. My goal is to contribute meaningfully to the transition toward a truly circular economy—one that benefits all people and safeguards the planet for future generations.
Andrew McNair – Divisional Director
Having spent over a decade at Atelier Ten, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to a diverse array of projects—from the 300,000 sq ft new-build office and fit-out for JPM in central Glasgow to the cutting-edge Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Bellahouston Park. Each project brings its own unique challenges, and I’m excited to take on the next set as we move forward with the dynamic projects currently in our pipeline.
Alan Stuart – Associate Director
I’m excited about my new role as the Manchester Office Lead to drive our Manchester office toward a more sustainable future and to be part of the brilliant, forward-thinking team in Manchester and across the UK. A recent highlight was serving as the Lead Engineer on the Eden at New Bailey project in Salford—Europe’s largest living-wall office development—which not only delivered sustainability at the forefront of the design but also won two accolades at the BCO Regional Awards for ESG and New Commercial Office. I look forward to developing and delivering innovative designs in the future. First thinking, then doing!
Derek Scally – Divisional Director
One of the projects I’m most proud of from my time at Atelier Ten is the Registers of Scotland – St Vincent Plaza. It’s a market-leading project that integrates innovative building services technologies, such as circadian lighting, with a strong emphasis on enhancing employee wellbeing. What stood out for me was how the design process placed employee experience at the heart of every decision, creating a workplace that genuinely supports health and lifestyle. Looking ahead, I’m excited about the forthcoming completion of our Passivhaus schools in Perth and Dundee. Having been involved in these projects for several years, it will be extremely rewarding to see them come to life and to assess their real-world performance—particularly in terms of energy efficiency and user experience.
Michael Waters – Associate Director
Since joining Atelier Ten as a graduate, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a diverse array of projects, ranging from small office fit-outs to large-scale masterplans. The experience has been incredibly rewarding, allowing me to delve into fire engineering and explore innovative solutions across different sectors. From evacuation modelling for major exhibitions and arenas to smoke modelling in educational buildings, each project has provided meaningful learning experiences. I’m excited about the future projects and challenges that lie ahead.
Steven Steel – Cad & BIM Team Manager
I have been fortunate enough to work for Atelier Ten for nearly 10 years now and have been involved in delivering a number of big projects like the Burrell Collection & JPM in Revit. I have learned a lot working through these challenging projects, which have helped shape my input and development within the company. I have enjoyed continually creating and adapting a more efficient and smoother implementation when working in Revit for the CAD team and engineers. This will only improve our workflows on new projects moving forward. For the coming year, we are working on a few large projects: the National Centre of Music Edinburgh, the Buchanan Galleries refurbishment and the Dunard Centre, to name a few.
Shonah Macdonald – Associate
During my time at Atelier Ten, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from small local buildings to complex masterplans and large-scale international developments. Rather than a single project, I’m most proud of the diversity of work I’ve contributed to, as it has allowed me to develop a broad set of skills and adapt to a variety of design challenges. Each project has offered unique learning opportunities and reinforced my commitment to delivering thoughtful, high-quality solutions. Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue working on impactful and forward-thinking projects. As fire safety regulations and performance requirements continue to evolve, I’m committed to expanding my expertise in this area to ensure that my work remains compliant and forward-thinking. I’m focused on expanding my knowledge to stay at the forefront of best practice so that the advice and analysis I provide is always current, rigorous, and effective.
Helen Howe – Business Development Coordinator
I’m excited to be promoted from Senior Administrator to Business Development Coordinator at Atelier Ten! Over the past (almost) six years, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to our team’s success by supporting bids, preparing critical documentation, and handling a wide range of administrative tasks that help us win work. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together and grateful to work alongside such talented and supportive colleagues. I’m looking forward to this next chapter and the new opportunities ahead.
