Planning approval for Buchanan Galleries Refurbishment
Atelier Ten is proud to celebrate Glasgow City Council’s approval of the transformational refurbishment of Buchanan Galleries, a project that marks a major step forward in reshaping the city’s retail core.
Working closely with Landsec, Threesixty Architecture Ltd, and the wider design team, we were delighted to deliver a comprehensive scope of services across MEP, fire engineering, sustainability consulting, and embodied carbon advisory.
The redevelopment reimagines Buchanan Galleries from an inward-facing mall into a vibrant, mixed-use urban destination layered with new retail, leisure, food, and civic experiences. From the elevated European-style food hall glowing on the skyline, to the striking new Crown Building bringing a landmark presence to Buchanan Street, the project embraces adaptive reuse, placemaking, and low-carbon design at its core.
Our work helped shape a responsible and future-ready retrofit strategy, modifying and modernising existing building services, validating infrastructure capacity, supporting decarbonisation pathways, and ensuring resilience for a next-generation mix of tenants, including increased food & beverage uses and a shift away from gas.
This approval is a significant milestone for a scheme designed to bring new energy, openness, and flexibility to one of Glasgow’s most important urban assets. We’re thrilled to contribute to a project that supports the city’s evolving centre and enhances its cultural and economic vitality.
A huge well done to Landsec and the entire project team.
