Atelier Ten at AIRAH Resilience Forum in Sydney

Anna Brannon, an Environmental Designer in the Sydney office, was among the speakers at the AIRAH Resilience Forum in Sydney, Australia on July 29th, 2018. This inaugural event showcased how the building industry can create a safer and more secure future through design, construction, installation, and operation. Her talk on “Designing façades for the future climate” outlined the steps designers can take to minimise overheating risk in residential buildings during blackouts and heatwave events, with a focus on façade design and passive thermal comfort. These steps include:

  1. Don’t design with old data
  2. Consider thermal autonomy
  3. Assess thermal comfort and overheating
  4. Optimize façade design
