Kamal Mixed Use Development

with Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF)

This iconic, mixed-use building will bring sustainable concepts in a challenging climate to the forefront of the Doha skyline.

In Doha, Qatar, the average temperature during the majority of the year is above the human comfort level and the high temperatures in the summer can reach up to 48 degrees C (120 degrees F). The humidity in Qatar also exceeds the maximum comfort level for almost half the year.

Given the high temperature and humidity, all the sustainable design strategies address green design with an emphasis on creating comfort within this climate. The project’s site design incorporates shading and light-colored paving to create a more comfortable outdoor environment, the façade is comprised of a high performance envelope, the building water system incorporates water conservation strategies, and high efficiency systems save energy for conditioning.

The integration of high-performance technologies will optimize energy use, water conservation, and indoor air quality, while the building’s design incorporates best practices to reduce environmental impact.
