Washington Canal Park featured in Architectural Record

In collaboration with OLIN and STUDIOS Architecture, Atelier Ten supported the Canal Park Development Association to create a unique gathering space showcasing the neighborhood’s commitment to green development.  This LEED Gold targeted park offers an ice skating rink, children’s play area, open lawn space, rain gardens, and a full service restaurant within a centrally located pavilion.

Atelier Ten completed lighting design and sustainability consulting which met the criteria for safety and security while also saving energy and adding liveliness to the park.  The project team helped optimize the utilization of the ice skating rink by recommending landscape elements to protect the rink from natural weather elements.  Atelier Ten paid close attention to the surface underlay of the rink to minimize solar emittance, and carefully designed lighting to minimize glare and light pollution.
