A new heart for Australia’s leading research university, Union Court brings together learning, social, community, cultural, and residential facilities in one vibrant and sustainable precinct.
With a visionary University requirement that this development achieves the stringent sustainability standards of One Planet Living, Union Court must achieve low embodied and operational carbon. Atelier Ten has shaped climate-responsive building facades that minimize the need for supplementary heating and cooling. We also have helped tune the central energy plant, which includes renewable energy components for optimal energy efficiency and investment value, and are responsible for precinct-wide energy modelling that tracks performance against the One Planet Living carbon budget.
To ensure the delivery of healthy buildings, Atelier Ten developed a detailed indoor environmental quality brief for the building, articulating specific thermal and visual comfort requirements for each of the many program types. We worked closely with the project team to optimise the facade design to deliver to building users and residents high quality daylight and high thermal comfort.
