Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre

with Glasgow City Council

The proposed new Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) will include business, entertainment, recreation and leisure use.

Atelier Ten have been providing fire engineering design services for the main Exhibition Centre development which includes a 15,000 capacity arena, multi-functional conference suites, function rooms, business meeting rooms and the multi-use subterranean car park / exhibition space.

Our work also includes associated hotel accommodation. Due to the size and nature of the building the full generic technical guidance for fire safety within the Technical Handbook is not suitable for application in the AECC.

It is proposed to apply fire engineering principles to the fire strategy for the building. This will utilise the following benchmark standards:

• BS 9999 Code of practise for Fire safety – Large open areas such as halls and conference areas;

• Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (Green Guide) – Very large areas such as main arena and concourse zone;

• BS 7974 Fire Engineering Principles – subterranean exhibition space.
