Planning Approved for Bruntwood’s Met Tower Transformation

Atelier Ten are proud and delighted to be part of the Bruntwood SciTech’s Met Tower design team. The planning approval for the refurbishment of the Grade-B listed building has been granted and new images showcasing the internal vision have been revealed. Bruntwood SciTech will also create a new 10-storey tower which will interconnect with the Met Tower via a wellbeing plaza space.

The proposed plans offer more than 200,000 sq. ft of office space and feature a 60-person rooftop flexible event space and a versatile breakout lounge for collaboration. The ambitious project will supercharge the growth of the city’s tech and digital sector becoming a new technology hub with access to Bruntwood SciTech’s sector-specialist network.

Atelier Ten are delivering the building services engineering, environmental design and benchmarking for this transformative project. The towers have been designed in line with the UKGBC and LETI net zero carbon targets for operational and embodied carbon. The new tower is targeting net zero carbon in construction and both buildings will be net zero operationally in their shared spaces. Development activity at Met Tower is expected to retain as much of the building’s existing structure as possible, significantly reducing the embodied carbon impact of the re-development. The approved plans also include carefully selected materials to reduce the environmental impact of the building and expects to achieve BREEAM Excellent status, a NABERS 5 Star rating and an EPC A rating once operational. Both buildings have been designed in line with smart technology and wellbeing principles and will feature extensive biophilia.
