When working on a building project, we try to get involved from the beginning. Working closely with the architects and other designers, we explore the options and investigate ways to minimize reliance on mechanical and electrical systems by optimising the efficiency of the built form and fabric. However, our solutions also respect the spirit of the architecture, and are the result of a resourceful and pragmatic approach to problem solving.

Whatever the size, scale and type of project, we are helped towards an efficient solution by experience, intuition and a thorough grasp of existing and emergent technologies and solutions from around the world. We are also able to accurately assess the implications of alternate solutions, using analytical and graphic tools to bring them to life and clearly communicate them to clients and partners.

We are often asked to look to the future, working with organisations such as Marks & Spencer, Kew Gardens and the Science Museum, to develop long-term plans for a more sustainable approach to development. We’re also asked to improve upon the past, as was the case with our proposal for the ‘greening’ of Mies van der Rohe’s Crown Hall in Chicago.

Our New York office works on projects all over the USA, but has a particular focus on the East Coast and Mid-West. atelier ten in New York specializes in environmental and sustainability design services: we don’t take on MEP commissions. The staff in New York are particularly skilled in environmental modelling techniques and in the implementation of the LEED standard from the US Green Building Council.
