-Claire Johnson, associate director in Atelier Ten’s San Francisco office, will be speaking at the Sustainable Silicon Valley Water Summit on December 7th, 2009
Claire will speak about the innovative water system currently in design for the Transbay Transit Center in San Francisco. The talk will focus on the design process, technical solutions, and regulatory challenges involved in complex water reuse projects. -Kroon Hall will soon be the seventh Yale structure to be recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council as a sustainable building
The council is likely to approve Kroon Hall’s application for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) Platinum certification - the highest rating the group awards - in late December or early January, according to several Kroon Hall project managers. Yale Daily News
-UIUC Business Instructional Facility Receives LEED Platinum
This first green building on the UIUC campus sets a new standard for performance at the university. The design also included several other “firsts” for UIUC, including the first green roofs, displacement ventilation system, low-flow water fixtures, triple pane windows and super-insulated envelope, a photovoltaic array, and native vegetation.

-Mandarin Oriental Receives LEED Gold
The Mandarin Oriental Hotel at MGM City Center is a model of sustainability on the Las Vegas Strip. Atelier Ten has optimized the building's facade to exceed the stringent local energy code while still creating an iconic presence in the skyline.

-Sustainability Consultant of the Year
Atelier Ten were the recipients of the "Sustainability Consultant of the Year" Award at the UK Green Building Council's inaugural awards ceremony on Tuesday 24th November 2009 in conjunction with Building Magazine.
It is always great to receive recognition of this sort, but this award is particularly gratifying as it represents acknowledgement from our peers of our continued efforts to inspire and engage with collaborators and clients to deliver a more sustainable built environment.
-MONU #11
The most recent issue of MONU magazine features an article by Environmental Designer Amanda Webb (San Francisco office) on passive cooling in medieval Cairo and what it might mean for today’s designers. The article builds upon research shecompleted while at Yale University. MONU Issue #11 was structured around the broad theme of ‘Clean Urbanism’ and challenged architects, planners, artists and academics to respond with ideas of what clean urbanism might mean. Kroon Hall, School of Forestry & Environmental Studies wins 2009 Honor Awards for Design Excellence from the AIA New England Design Awards Program.
Kroon Hall was on the cover of October’s Metropolis Magazine. The article, called Carbon Neutral Now looks at Kroon as a project which has taken on Cabon neutrality as a design goal.
Yale University’s LEED Platinum Targeted Kroon Hall is featured in the September issue of Greensource.

OCTOBER
-Mark Loeffler speaks at the CiHAC Expo in Mexico City
Director of Atelier Ten's New Haven office, Mark Loeffler, delivered this year's keynote speech at the CiHAC Expo in Mexico City. This is the first year that the expo had had a "green" focus with a special "Design for Sustainable Lighting" track. Along with a handful selected US and Mexican lighting designers (and members of the International Association of Lighting Designers) Mark delivered the presentation for which the seminar track was named. CiHAC is the primary construction industry trade convention for Mexico and Central America.
-Meghan Smith-Campbell speaks at the AIA New York City Chapter's New York Times Building Tour
Before working for Atelier Ten as a lighting designer, Meghan Smith-Campbell was a Daylight and Electric Light Integration Commissioning Agent for the New York Times Building. In an event hosted by the Center for Architecture and Mechoshade, Smith-Campbell presented her experience and knowledge on the building's lighting controls to the AIA New York City Chapter on Saturday, October 10th.

Yale University’s LEED Platinum Targeted Kroon Hall is featured in this month’s Greensource. As with many of our projects, Atelier Ten worked closely with the architectural team to maximize the building’s resource efficiency and environmental performance. - Comcast Center in Philadelphia has earned LEED® CS (Core & Shell) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council

- Genr8 wins Stoke-on-Trent £230m regeneration contract
The Genr8 proposals are for a phased development, to create about 1.2 million ft2 of office, retail and hotel space. It is hoped that the development will create more than 4,200 jobs, and boost the North Staffordshire economy by nearly £19m a year.
International urban designers Gehl Architects and RHWL will also help prepare Genr8's proposals, along with sustainability experts Atelier Ten. More on Building >
- AIA annual Design Awards Gala
The San Francisco Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) held its annual Design Awards Gala on March 5, 2009. Claire Johnson served on the jury for the Energy + Sustainability awards with Bill Burke of the Pacific Energy Center, Mark Kelly of BAR Architects, and Mara Baum of Anshen + Allen. Entries were judged based upon their energy performance, integrated design approach, success in addressing sustainability issues other than energy, and architectural design excellence. - Strange but true: sustainable air-conditioned greenhouse by Atelier Ten
Atelier Ten was on the team led by landscape architect Grant Associates, working with architect Wilkinson Eyre, that won the commission in an international competition in 2006. The overall scheme includes three public gardens. Grant Associates is masterplanning the £400m one at Marina South, which will have 54ha of landscaping, a concert arena and shops as well as the star attraction – the two scallop-shaped greenhouses, which are even bigger than the Eden Project’s. - San Francisco Giants team submits proposal for mission rock seawall 337
The San Francisco Giants team, with Hargreaves Associates, SMWM (now Perkins+Will) and Atelier Ten, has submitted the design proposal for the Mission Rock Seawall 337 project.
The proposal includes a mixed-use program of residential units, office space, performance venues, and rehabilitation of one of San Francisco's historic piers. In addition, the plan features more than 6 acres of waterfront open space featuring recreation areas and wetlands. The development aims to exceed San Francisco's green building goals by proving high-performance, low-energy buildings. Water conservation, renewable energy, a sophisticated transportation demand management plan, and user controls to reduce the project's carbon footprint have also been considered.
