2015 Kickoff Talks

Atelier Ten kicks off the New Year with exciting talks across the U.S.

Lights Out: Measuring the Impact of Power Outages on Multifamily Buildings
January 23, 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
Ben Shepherd, Associate Director, and Michael Esposito, Environmental Designer

Ben Shepherd, Associate Director of Atelier Ten’s New York office, and Michael Esposito, Environmental Designer in New York, will demonstrate the new tool developed for Enterprise Community Partners to analyze and model the impact of extreme weather on multifamily buildings. The tool helps to assess how indoor temperatures are affected during power outages to estimate how long a building can remain habitable. Ben and Michael will present strategies to optimize the building envelope and use information generated by the software to make a building more efficient and resilient.

2015 ASHRAE Winter Conference
January 28, 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Shreshth Nagpal, Associate

Shreshth Nagpal from Atelier Ten’s New York office will present the technical paper “Rethinking Energy Design Guidelines for Building Form Articulation” during the Energy Associate with Building Envelopes session at the 2015 ASHRAE Winter Conference. Shreshth will make the case that criteria set by current energy standards considers the building envelope solely as an interface isolated from the natural environment, and creates dependence on artificial systems for occupant comfort. The study will demonstrate how an optimally designed envelope can positively interact with exterior environment, passively enhance indoor comfort conditions while simultaneously reducing building energy consumption; all independent of the criteria set by current standards.
