David Zwirner 20th Street Gallery

The David Zwirner 20th Street gallery located in New York City is the first commercial art gallery to obtain LEED Gold certification in the U.S. The gallery, which opened its doors one year ago, is a five-story, 30,000 square foot expansion of David Zwirner’s 19th Street location.

Atelier Ten provided environmental design, energy analysis, and LEED administration services for the gallery to meet its ambitious environmental goals. In collaboration with Selldorf Architects, Atelier Ten advised on sustainable design strategies including low-flow plumbing fixtures to reduce overall potable water use by 20%, an intensive green roof to reduce stormwater run-off and minimize heat-island effect, as well as high-performance lighting and controls, premium efficiency HVAC equipment, and triple pane glazing to reduce the gallery’s annual energy costs by 35%.

Atelier Ten’s team from the New York office includes Director Nico Kienzl, Associate Director Emilie Hagen, and Senior Environmental Designer Bret Mantyk.
