Claire Maxfield speaks on Net Zero Labs at AIA SF

Claire Maxfield, Director of Atelier Tens’ San Francisco office, will speak on net zero laboratory design at the AIA San Francisco chapter on Wednesday, June 8th, 2016 at 5:30 P.M.

The laboratory as a building type embodies Atelier Ten’s ethos: tackling the largest resource consumers, enhancing human dignity and wellness, and engaging with technically complex, tough buildings. Laboratories voraciously consume both energy and water. Their energy use can be ten or twenty times greater than an office or education building, which means there is an enormous opportunity for improvement.

Claire will discuss Atelier Ten’s approach to net zero lab design, starting with challenging basic design criteria, the role of façades in labs, innovative HVAC approaches, and water conservation opportunities. She will use case studies of recent lab buildings around the country to illustrate the sustainable design process and highlight emerging technologies.
