Atelier Ten discusses “MidCentury (Un)Modern” Manhattan Office Building

On Wednesday, July 10, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Nico Kienzl, the Director of Atelier Ten’s New York City office, will participate in a forum at AIA New York with Bill Browning, co-founding partner at Terrapin Bright Green, and Theodore Prudon, President of DOCOMOMO US. Bill will first present his study analyzing the retrofit potential of single glazed commercial office buildings in Manhattan constructed between the late 1950’s and mid-1970’s. Key topics will include embodied energy and the architectural and economic challenges involved in retrofitting. Is it more sustainable to retrofit or to demolish and rebuild? Following, Nico and Theodore will offer their own insights regarding the environmental concerns associated with the Manhattan office building.
