Patrick’s success in integrating innovative technologies with noteworthy architecture has been acknowledged by the Royal Institute of British Architects, who have made him an Honorary Fellow, one of only three in his field.

A founding director of atelier ten, he is a Chartered Building Services Engineer with more than twenty years’ experience in the design of high performance buildings and their systems. With extensive experience in the integration of environmental and building systems with architectural and structural schemes, Patrick has particular expertise in thermal mass energy storage technologies as well as radiant conditioning systems.

Patrick has completed projects around the world noted for their innovative design as well as their sustainability, including major cultural complexes in Gateshead, Melbourne and Singapore, a national sustainability centre at the Earth Centre in Doncaster and educational, commercial, retail, cultural and residential projects all over the UK.

Award-winning projects include The Earth Centre, Great Notley Sustainable Primary School in Essex, the Martial Rose Library at King Alfred’s College, Winchester and the Baltic Arts Centre in Gateshead.

Current projects include the extension to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond VA, the new Grand Rapids Museum of Fine Arts in Michigan, as well as numerous school, housing and cultural projects. Patrick established the New York office in 2000 to bring the experience of atelier ten to bear on the burgeoning green interest in the USA.

Outside atelier ten, Patrick’s approachability, depth of knowledge and excellent communication skills mean that he is always in demand. He has served as a visiting lecturer and tutor at architecture programs including the AA and Bartlett Schools in London, de Montfort University in Leicester and Reading University and he currently teaches at Yale University School of Architecture (teaching students on its core environmental design and building services course). He is on the Design Review Committee of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), the UK’s national design review board, and is a Governor of the Building Centre Trust in London.
